Ok, I was unpacking a box that's been floating around the house and found a couple old skippy's oils. Square glass bottles, nothing too fancy. I've got like 5 drops left of the Ellegua oil, and I've always loved the smell. Does anyone else remember this stuff? Has it gone the way of the dodo, or is it still around somewhere? No one else's ever came close. I may just be doing searches with the wrong words, but it's like it fell off the face of the planet.
Any ideas?

Re: Skippy's Oils - Ellegua
Thu, May 18, 2006 - 7:48 AMSkippy's is long defunct. They are now under a new name and only one of their factories still exists. My store stocks their products and may have some of that oil. If not we could order it for you. Call my father at the store (Mystic Curio) and ask him. The number is 586-954-9639. My dad's name is Clay but everyone calls him Cuppie. So if you want to endear yourself to him ask for Cuppie (smile). He is a great guy. Tell him I sent you looking for the oil and I'm sure he'll do everything he can to help you.
I have a kind of funny story about those oils. Iyalorisha Nina Perez, Igbin Kolade, Olo Obatala Bo Alagba Lagba Lagba (Ibaye and alevasholem), was my first godmother. She had well over 65 years of Osha when she died (possibly over 70). At the time she was my godmother she was nearly 60 in Osha. She was already a legendary Iyalorisha and one of the pioneers of the religion in the US. She trained many of the most well known Oriates in the religion and even used to educate Babalawos.
One day she was doing a working for a woman to heal the relationship between the woman and her husband. She was using Skippy Love Oil as part of the work. I said "Madrina, they make that stuff in a factory, you don't really believe it draws love, do you?" She said, "Young man, look at the bottle. It says "Love Oil." What else would it do?"
To her, the people in the factory mixed, bottled, and labeled it with the intention of making love oil. That gave it a certain ashe. It is a well known saying in this religion that "everything is a way of either increasing or decreasing ashe." To her, adding an oil that was made with the intent of drawing love, no matter how superficial or casual its creation, increased the ashe of the work she was doing. It was a big lesson for me and one I value to this day. -

Re: Skippy's Oils - Ellegua
Sat, March 29, 2008 - 2:16 PMHmmmmm.... I like that philosophy.... I was showing a friend of mine this morning how to use sacred oils to clean house when I openly wondered if an oil that cost $1.75 can really get the job done... I guess in the end it is the enrgy that is generated for the intent despite the cost...
