The act of leaving offerings at your altar is not a bad thing. What's important to remember, however, is that those items on the altar are not the same thing as having an Orisha's ashe seated for you in a proper shrine.

Devotion is ALWAYS appropriate; don't let anyone tell you otherwise. You've begun developing a relationship with Elegba already - that matters. You just need to realize that Elegba is not inherently seated in those items; they simply represent him and give your prayers and meditations a focal point.

If you choose to keep those items once your Elegba is seated for you is entirely up to you. Just always remember the difference and you'll be fine.

    I hope this helps.

I started out the same way, because of my love for ellegua, then it was sugguested to me to give my offerings to ellegua at the crossroads, and in the woods,i did so and got even better results,I even got to have a better relationship with ellegua at his places in nature or out in the open.I think either way, your heart is realized by ellegua and i would not be surprized at you recieving your warriors soon in your life so you can approach his ache and commune with his spirit direct.Ellegua is one of my favorite saints and i attend him every single day,we have a very awesome relationship, and he comes to speak at the mat everytime oba or babalawo opens a letter at readings.Ellegua truly loves me and protects and cares for me generously,he stands up for me when ever issues arise that need special attenttion of a saint. He has never failed me yet.I will never stop caring for him or reverencing him as long as i live.As a matter of fact,Iam planning a quiro for him and the ibeyji soon.ALAFIA.
