Alafia and blessings to you all,
I wanted to come out of the shadows and introduce myself as i am loving all of the wonderful discussion on this tribe. My name is Kevin. Within Ifa my name is Omi Sakin Ifawole Zannu. I am a Priest of Yemoja and a member of Ile Oyigiyigi here in Dallas,Tx. My friend and good pal Dominic from this list introduced me to this tribe. You all seem like a great group of people and I look forward to networking with you all. Especially those of you in Texas.

Rock on! We're not that common. I've had the lady for 15 years.

Looks like I'm the only Achaba (turquoise in my rama) road here :)

Wonder which road is the rarest? Okoto perhaps?

There are some pretty rare ones ... rarer than Okoto.

Awoyo (the ever full pot), Ibu Olowo (the owner of money), Ibu Aro (she who is crowned with the rainbow), Ibu Agana (the messenger of Olokun), Ibu Akuara (she who lives at the junction of the river and the ocean), Ibu Konla (the sea foam).

I think of the "common" ones (those who are asked most often in ita), Ibu Agana is probably the rarest, or maybe Konla.

                          Modupue Afolabi,

Awoyo I have heard mentiioned - and of course sung about - and somewhere read something about Ibu Konla - perhaps something you wrote (grin) but on the others I'm clueless.

Whta are their colors/elekes? (smile - how many are dark blues?)

Ibu Aro takes translucent dark blue. Some punctuate her eleke with glorias of all colours. Awoyo takes 7 shades. Konla takes milky white beads (jabon) punctuated with VERY few light blue beads. Her eleke should look like the sea foam. Ibu Olowo takes dark blue (most use translucent dark blue) and cowries (some use coins). Akuara is a light blue. Agana takes sort of a teal blue, kind of greenish. All of them can be grouped in 7s with crystal or milky white (with the exception of Konla whose eleke is very specific) -- seven blue, seven crystal or jabon, etc. This can also be done in multiples of 7. Coral is also common to all paths. Agana takes a translucent green bead on either side of the coral like Olokun.

I'm kind of an eleke nut and will be photographing and posting pics of them soon.

I remember seeing pages from a book that had a bunch of collected eleke patterns - is that book accurate? I can't for the life of me remember what it's called.

My godfather's book "Ase Ewe Osain" has eleke patterns that are very good. If you have any specific you want to know I can help out. I'm pretty good with knowing the way each lineage dresses each road. Most of them are pretty standard, but there are some where if you are from one city in Cuba your eleke for, say, Oshun Akuaro, can look totally different from someone with the same road whose lineage is from a different city.

I also have some amazing sources for beads, esp. hard to find ones like jet, ivory, and non-dyed coral (cheap bastards).

I went once to my godmother's to get my Olokun eleke replaced, it had broke. So I get there, she makes me a new one, gets it ready, puts it to me, and as I am about to walk out the front door, it breaks again. Suddenly there are beads raining all over the front door. So we go back up and she makes another one. But we were talking, and she made it too big for her liking. It would have hung down into my pants. LOL So fixes that one and tells me to put it on my Olokun itself. She makes me another one, washes it, etc, and I was able to make it out the door. I still have it, It seems that Olokun wanted me to wear one that was larger beads, and stronger built, the ones Madrina normally makes are finer. My Shango one has to be large and have Coweries for Glorias. I keep getting this vision of them all being like that, so that I am wearing something that approaches the mini Mazos I have seen worn. But all of my elekes being like that and me bent over from the weight...
