Hello everyone,
I didn't see a thread for introductions, so please forgive me if I missed it. I was introduced to Santeria 15 years ago, but it's only been in the last year that I've taken the practice serously. I'm 37, male, of Amer. Indian/Norwegian background. I'm making an Alter for Oschun, does anyone have any suggestions? Apart from tureen, sunflowers, honey? Any suggestions, or feedback would be so helpful.

I turned this into a big art project, which was followed with all sorts of -not official- altars, but nevertheless, offerings to the Orisha. Oshun: yellow, maybe green, gold, 5, river, some birds (i think you can google 'oshun' or 'ochun') ducks, honey, pastries, pumpkin, it goes on and on. also, french perfume. I have an egg made of yellow stone and some amber. etc. But, ancerstors are white, family, the dead, I have a white photo album of my dead; (also, try googling.

Sat, March 8, 2008 - 9:39 AMSetting up space for the Eggun should be first, the eggun (ancestors) are first in all things (even before Eshu). The things to put for ancestors would be: a white candle, glass of water, favorite items (like perfume, cigarettes, candy) of your deceased family members, photos of the deceased (don't put photos with living people in them) and flowers. When you set up the Eggun altar talk to you ancestors, Thank them for their help & blessings and talk to them as often as possible.
The other VERY IMPORTANT thing to do is find godparents (Madrina/Padrino)or an Ile that can teach and guide you.
For Oshun, peacock feathers are good, any yellow flowers, perfume, yellow candles, mirrors or fans.

The altar to uyour Eggun (ancestors) should be the 1st tep in the religion.
In addition, you need the guidance and advice from a godparent - pray to Olodumare, your Ori and your Eggun to find you a reputable and compatible godparent and make sure you choose carefully and take your time.
