i got one that connects with Eggun very well it's called BOSCHE it's quite a crazy deck.. you have to really have your eggun talk to you cuz the imagery is WHACKED OUT. Other than that i love my Mystic Faerie Tarot Deck :)

I collect Tarot and recently bought a deck I am giving to the Muertos, though I am not necessarily reccomending it. I t is the Mary El Tarot and though some of the artwork may be strange I find it a beautiful deck which speaks to me.

That Bosche Deck is not really my thing but that Mystic Faerie Tarot is quite beautiful. I like the imagery of the Afro Brazilian Tarot but for some reason the Scapini Tarot Lukumi Deck speaks to me more. Tarot of the Orishas is Okay though I wasn't too keen on Gnomes and Salamanders, and Sylphs in it. I felt World Spirit might be a good Tarot for the job, as well.

I guess it all depends on what attracts you and calls to you.

Ya the Bosche deck wasnt my thing but my friend felt compelled to give it to me and it took months till i could connect to it, but it really helps me connect to the spirits at the boveda and my eggun. Scapini Tarot Lukumi Deck i only got to see a few of the cards pics off aeclectic website.. cant judge the deck off a few cards but i like the art even though i feel it should show a lot more heavy characteristic of the Orishas but i like how the author respects the meanings of the Tarot cards heavily displayed with the orishas present for that card so i can't judge it.

I have been reading tarot for a while now, since 2001. I've only ever used two decks though.

One attuned to solar energies for day time readings (rider waite tarot deck) and one attuned to lunar energies for night time readings (The Secret Tarot by By Marco Nizzoli).

I tend to prefer the secret tarot, I guess it's because I use them more often since I work days and do most of my readings at night.

I have quite a few decks that I've collected an antique alice in wonderland deck, and the Visconti decks.

The Visconti are beautiful, but I would never try to use them for readings.

What do you guys mean by give tarot to the egun? Is this just a reading done to interpret what the dead are saying? Or just as a gift on their boveda?

For me, it is a Tarot Deck that is a gift specifically for the Muertos (dedicated to Them) with the intent to better communicate with Them and receive Their wisdom and advice. Some read for other people with this understanding, some ask for Deity's influence in interpreting the cards and some rely on their own innate psychic ability. I do keep it on the Boveda. I really haven't used Tarot to communicate with Egun perse as I more rely on what's done at the Egun shrine and dreams, however cryptic they sometimes are, for that.

I agree with Wandering.. that there are different ways to work with egun. Cards are used by some espiritistas to communicate with egun. Children of Ochun are usually gifted at that kind of thing, especially if they have 5-5 in itá from Ochun. I don't think it matters which deck you choose, choose one where the symbols on the cards mean something to you and will help you remember the meaning of the cards. Keeping the deck on your boveda is a good idea if you want help from egun, but it's not going to be an automatic thing that the egun stand up and help you. You also have to pray to the egun and attend to them in other ways so you will be attuned to their messages and recognize when and how they're talking to you. The use of tarot isn't strictly a practice tied to Santería, I assume you know that, it is more in the espiritista vein, but many people from traditional Cuban ramas incorporate espiritismo into their work as Santeros/as. The cards have established meaning (which comes from their own long tradition); the aché you have to work with egun will let you interpret the meaning of the cards more deeply and hopefully get the egun to send some messages through them. Be sure to keep a glass on water and a lit white candle on the table when you read the cards, this is what I was taught. When your done, snuff the candle with your fingers (don't blow it out) and pour out the water. It's also a good idea to keep a journal of your readings so you can review them from time to time. Many blessings to you. I look forward to hearing how this works out for you!
